Featured in this month’s eTotaal magazine, Altelium’s Alex Johns leads a discussion about the ‘missing’ Tesla batteries. As the world’s largest producers of electric vehicles, the high quality Tesla batteries would be ideal for second life uses when they eventually become available. Altelium is already enabling car manufacturers to pivot their batteries to second life uses in battery energy storage systems (BESS), so Alex’s question is a vital one for Altelium and the wider energy storage industry.
Alex also explores the important distinction between battery stage of charge (SoC) and state of health (SoH.) Fleet managers and drivers are highly conscious of SoC because it tells them if there is enough power to reach their destination or complete their task. Battery SoH however is an absolute value that can be decisive in the future for the trade in used batteries.
