Mike
Carden

Mike is the claims manager at CNC Asset working on the renewable energy insurance and warranty claims. He is responsible for handling the claims from notification through to settlement, dealing directly with the policyholders and liaising with the insurers.

Ed Grimston

Ed is a co-founder and joint managing Director. He has a broad range of experience in consulting, underwriting and broking working across the UK, US and Europe. Ed has an MBA from Cass Business School and a degree in Natural Sciences from Durham University.

Nagarathinam

Mangai is a laboratory battery expert providing testing and insights on the cause of breakdown of cells at different state of health (SoH) by Pre- & Post-mortem analysis of cells at various stages. She received her PhD in Chemistry at University of Hyderabad, India in 2001. In 2002, worked as a Post-doctoral Fellow at University of Bourgogne (uB), France. Later from 2008 to 2014, worked as a Research Fellow at National University of Singapore, Singapore. Since December 2018, she has been working as a Senior Research Associate at Lancaster University, UK. Major part of her research focus includes developing metal organic formate/phosphate open frameworks, olivine phosphates and metal oxides for Li/Na/Zn-ion batteries; pre- and post-mortem analysis of Li-ion cells using various ex-situ and operando techniques such as diffraction, microscopy etc. to understand their ageing and degradation mechanism.

Smith

Nicky heads up our corporate communications, and is also a director of Twelve PR. She began her career in media and communications at Haymarket Publishing and worked at the Guardian and Observer for nine years before co-founding the award winning agency, Twelve.

Steve
Wrigley

Steve is Altelium’s project manager, working closely with the Business Development Manager. With a mechanical engineering degree from Leeds University and an MSc from Lancaster, Steve has held senior technical and project management roles within industry during a 20 year career at BAE Systems.

Lampros
Papaspyros

Lampros is a data scientist for Altelium. He develops tools for data mining and ETL processes for transforming raw data to actionable datasets which are used for further analyses. Prior to Altelium he worked as a Consultant Engineer for Siemens. He holds a MEng from the National Technical University of Athens and an MSc from Imperial College London.

Charley
Grimston

Co-founder, Charley, is a specialist in developing innovative warranty products. Charley has established the CNC family of companies, focusing on complex indoor and outdoor industrial machinery from a finance and insurance perspective. He is now an active member of the British Standards Institute (BSI) steering group.

Vasileios
Maroulis

Vas is Altelium’s CTO. He leads the design, development and implementation of the software solutions. With a master’s degree in electrical & computer engineering at the National Technical University of Athens and an MBA from Cass Business School, he co-founded MGCode in 2009.

Pierre
Ciholas

Pierre is Altelium’s system architect, in charge of designing hardware and software systems, communications, and security across the organisation. He has a background in network and system administration (BSc Hons, CCNA) and specialised in cyber security (MSc, PhD candidate).

Konstantinos
Chalvantzis

Kostas is Altelium’s lead software engineer responsible for development and implementation of the software solutions including the development of the Altelium system infrastructure and processes. He has a first degree in computer science from the National and Kapodistrian University in Athens and a master’s in advanced informatics & Computing Systems from the University of Piraeus.

Sabina has joined Altelium as an Executive Assistant to Ed Grimston.

Sabina comes with more than 10 years’ experience as an Executive Assistant.

Tony
McGuirk

Tony is a globally recognised leader in fire safety and emergency and crisis management. Tony was Chief Executive of Merseyside Fire Services for fifteen years and is a Fellow of the Institution of Fire Engineers and Fellow of the International Institute of Risk and Safety management. With experience of every type of major incident and risk he is a National Strategic Adviser (NSAT) to the government and has provided expert advice to strategic planning and decision-making processes at board and government level across the world. A board member of the Chief Fire Officers Association (CFOA) since 1996, Tony has led national and international organisations in the UK and Australia.

Josephine
O'Donoghue

Josephine directs all stakeholder media relations for Altelium. She joins us with 14 years of research, editorial and copywriting experience across the magazine publishing, aviation, and PR industries. An English graduate from Oxford University, she produces informed and engaging written content across a range of media relations campaigns. Also working at Twelve PR, Josephine directs media relations across traditional and digital channels for Altelium, including providing social media support.

Bohling

Hugh Bohling is a graduate of Cambridge University and Altelium’s legal director. He set up CityNet Law in 2006 and is a leading corporate lawyer for the insurance market with over 25 years’ experience. Hugh’s focus in practice is M&A corporate activity and investment in the London insurance/reinsurance market.

Stathis
Fylaktos

Stathis is the lead software engineer for Altelium. He has experience in designing and developing scalable, high-performance distributed solutions. He has a first degree in Mathematics from the University of Athens, a master’s in Economics from the University of Surrey and a master’s in Computer Science from the University of Hertfordshire.

Johns

Alex is Altelium’s business development manager with over twenty years’ transport industry experience. Alex implemented Gatwick Airports’ Tesla taxi trial, at Sustainable Environment Ltd, was instrumental in the development of the Small Vehicle Transport System (SVTS). Alex helped develop UK Social Enterprise policy and ran a major EU project with Poland and Tuscany.

Michaela is Altelium’s product manager, responsible for the efficient operation of the office. She assists our team of professionals dedicated to delivering a first-class service. She is the point of first response for incoming enquiries and manages policy renewal, liaising between company, clients and insurers.

Senior Advisor to the UK National Fire Chiefs Council, member of UK Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Energy (BEIS) Storage Health and Safety Governance and Storage Safety – Fire Service Working Groups. Working with Fire and Rescue Services across the UK, New Zealand and Australia. Commissioned by UK Office for Product and Safety Standards & BEIS to research the Safety of Second Life Batteries in Domestic Battery Energy Storage Systems. Over 35 years’ experience in electrochemistry, Google H-Index 53.

Paul
Markham

Paul is a chartered mechanical engineer, who has been working in the power and rotating machinery industry for 33 years. Chairman of the European Power Committee for over ten years, he has conducted risk engineering surveys, and supported underwriting and claims personnel in power generation industries worldwide, including coal, hydro, geothermal, solar and combined cycle facilities for eighteen years.
Paul began working life at British Steel and from there moved to the Royal Navy for eight years. He has held senior roles at Siemens Power Generation, Zurich Global Energy and works for Liberty Speciality Markets.

Jo is Altelium’s Group Financial Controller, with more than 15 years’ experience in senior finance roles across a multitude of sectors, from housing to transport. She is ACA qualified with a BSc (Hons) in Agricultural & Environmental Science from Newcastle University.

Mitzelos

Yannis is our chief financial officer; an accomplished professional in the financial sector with more than 12 years’ experience as CFO in a multinational environment. Before that he spent 10 years in corporate banking. He is an ACCA affiliated member, he holds an MSc in Finance and a BSc in Management Science.

Harry is a co-founder of Altelium. An expert in monitoring and modelling rechargeable batteries, in particular for electric vehicle applications, and Chair of Energy Technology at the University of Duisburg-Essen ZBT – Centre for Fuel Cell Technology.

Michael is a senior software engineer for Altelium. He has experience in multithreaded microservice architecture and high performance systems. He holds a degree in Computer Science from the University of Hertfordshire.

Benson

Sean has over 30 years’ experience in the UK, EU and international insurance markets specialising in underwriting, claims management, product development and claims leakage. He has held directorships and run insurance out-sourcing companies using his commercial market and process re-engineering knowledge.

Zulke

Alana is Altelium’s laboratory battery expert. She has over eight years hands-on experience in electrochemical systems with relevance for energy conversion and storage, and oversees a laboratory of lithium ion batteries.

Amy
Anderson

Amy is one of our energy systems engineer and joins us with a background in aerospace engineering with previous experience developing battery applications in space.
At Altelium she works on developing insights based on AI, monitoring, and modelling techniques across large datasets. Amy is also in the final stages of her PHD from the University of Strathclyde which looks at modelling power energy patterns.

Topalidis

Konstantinos is Altelium’s product manager and business analyst. He has many years of experience in product development and project management in large telecoms. He holds a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Manchester Metropolitan University, an Information Systems Engineering MSc and an MPhil in Decision Support Systems from UMIST and an MBA from Leicester University.

Pesmazoglou

John is co-founder and joint MD of Altelium. He specialises in insurance solutions with over 25 years’ experience. He works with Extended Warranty pioneer CNC Asset Ltd, and runs an insurance broking business, Helestia, based in Athens. He focuses on research-driven insurance products, data management and insurtech.

David
Partington

David is Altelium’s chief operating officer. He is responsible for ensuring that the company’s platform scales rapidly to support global expansion. David joined from insurtech ‘bolttech’, his experience spanning insurance, technology & operations. Previously at AIG, he was responsible for managing its EMEA Consumer investment portfolio of change projects across twenty countries.

Eleanora is Altelium’s administrator, She brings more than 10 years experience in Administration and Human resources. Eleanora acts as a first point of contact for incoming enquiries and manages policy renewals and liaising between company and clients.
