Our story

Insurance and warranties are traditionally based on historical information, analysed to predict future behaviour and risk.

Altelium’s founders recognised that there was a need for warranties to support investment and trade in batteries, and that real-time data, battery modelling and AI could replace historical data.

The business began in 2018 with laboratory testing at Lancaster University to build battery degradation models. Innovate UK recognised the importance of Altelium’s work as key to unlocking investment in the circular economy and transition to green energy, and provided grant funding to develop the business.

Altelium now provides ‘A’ rated insured warranties for batteries in mobile and stationary settings across the world.

Its battery health tests, reports and certificates play a vital role in building confidence when buying and selling used electric vehicles. Its warranties help power investment in battery assets which are an essential component of the transition to net zero.
